CAROL'S LEGACY LODGE

Carol's Legacy Lodge offers a cozy four-bedroom home to stay while visiting Port Heiden and the surrounding attractions.

Port Heiden lies near the Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve which is home to a six-mile wide volcanic caldera 2,000 feet deep.  Port Heiden is a traditional Alutiiq community, with a commercial fishing and subsistence lifestyle and boasts beautiful beaches.  The Meshik River flows into Meshik Bay where it meets the waters of the Bering Sea.

Kristian's rich Alutiiq and Scandinavian heritage stems from family members who have lived in Alaska for generations including the communities of Chignik Lagoon, the Port Heiden (Meshik) area, and Kodiak.  Kristian is happy to share his culture with visitors.

Amenities at Carol's Legacy Lodge include: Dish Network, wireless internet access, laundry facility, large well-established kitchen with every appliance, land-line phone, large chest-freezer (extra storage space) in basement, and a wet/dry sauna.  The lodge also offers an area suitable for use as a helicopter landing site.

Breakfast items are provided including: coffee/tea, assorted individual cereal packages, milk, breakfast bars, individual oatmeal packets, assorted jellies/butter.

Things to Do:

Port Heiden offers miles of wide-open beaches to explore, and glass floats are exciting to find along the way.  Four-wheelers are available locally for rent.  Several miles of roads make sight-seeing fun.  Silver (Coho) Salmon fishing is accessible by road as are great spots for bird-watching.  The Aniakchak Crater is within hiking distance and offers breath-taking views from the crater rim.  The six-mile diameter caldera contains many amazing sites including Surprise Lake, evidence of lava flows (including the 1931 eruption), as well as Vent Mountain (a cinder cone 1,000 feet high.)  Ask Kristian to assist you if interested in visiting the crater.
